IF YOU ARE LOST:
- Put down your phone.
- Go to the nearest forest. Any small gathering of trees will do.
- Lay down the burden you are carrying, physical or psychological.
- Now, look up at the branches over your head. You are home.
If you stay there and are quiet, you will start to remember. The smell of the pine needles, the sway of the branches and the rustle of leaves will slowly invade your senses, reawakening them. Breathe deeply. Slow down your mind. The noise inside will begin to fade, and you will hear not silence, but the quiet sounds of the world outside of human creation: the world that was always there, waiting for you, and that will be there still after you are gone.
Listen! (the trees will say) the world is far greater than your chatter and noise. We remember the time before, when you were naked and afraid; we remember when you built your fortifications to protect yourself from fear. We also witnessed you war and fight against one another, perpetuating your own fears.
Remember! (they might say) you are but one of many, and a small one at that. You came here naked and afraid, and naked and afraid you will leave this world. In between, remember your smallness, accept your nudity and still your fears, for there is much that is majestic, beautiful and mysterious to be thankful for yet.
